KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) — The Youth and Sports Ministry plans to organise a national level Type United Nations (UN) Conference among institutions of greater learning (IPT) starting up coming 12 months.
Its International Division secretary, Azlina Fadzlon Mohd Amin the conference will be the basis of selection of Malaysian delegates to the third Global Style UN Meeting (GMUN) in Incheon, South Korea future year.
Speaking to reporters within the sidelines of the five-day GMUN 2010 in the PWTC here Wednesday, she stated 68 Malaysian delegates in the conference would lead the national Style UN Meeting committees.
“We hope the experience gained by these young diplomats on the role played by the UN on the globe stage may be shared with other students,” she said.
On GMUN 2010, she claimed Malaysia was fortunate to be selected to host the second conference which successfully concluded Wednesday.
The inaugural GMUN was held in Geneva, Switzerland in August last 12 months.
A total of 352 undergraduates from 52 countries took part in GMUN 2010 with China sending the biggest delegates with 69 participants followed by Malaysia (68), Bangladesh (18) and Indonesia (17).
“If GMUN is held in Europe, we may not be able to send a huge quantity of delegates as it will likely be pricey to complete so,” mentioned Azlina Fadzlon.
The five-day conference with the theme “Towards an Alliance of Civilisation: Bridging Cultures to Obtain Peace and Development” is organised from the UN Department of Public Information
