General Rules of Conduct

General Rules of Conduct

Participants are required to comply with all campus regulations as stated in the 1998-1999 Bentley College Student Handbook. The following are highlights of the rules. For details, please refer to the Bentley College Student Handbook provided to the advisor.

Alcohol

Alcohol is prohibited at all times and in all places, including the residence halls and the conference buildings. Any delegate caught in possession of alcoholic beverages will be barred from the conference and sent home immediately. No warnings will be given. If alcohol is found in a delegate’s room, all delegates in the room will be barred from the conference and sent home immediately.

Drugs

Illegal drugs are prohibited. Model United Nations staff or College staff reserves the right to investigate any related matters. Any delegate caught in possession of illegal drugs will be barred from the conference and sent home immediately. No warnings will be given. If illegal drugs are found in a delegate’s room, all delegates in the room will be barred from the conference and sent home.

Sexual Harassment

To insure that all delegates enjoy the conference, sexual harassment is prohibited. The Student Handbook defines sexual harassment as:

  1. “Unwanted sexual advances that may take the form of inappropriate sexual or suggestive comments, sounds or jokes; unsolicited touching or fondling; unwanted intercourse or assault;
  2. unwelcome requests for sexual favors; and
  3. such conduct that [has] the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with an individual’s academic or work performance, or of creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive educational, social, living or working environment.”

Sexual harassment will not be tolerated. Any incidents of sexual harassment should be immediately reported to an advisor or a member of the Secretariat.

Fire Alarm

In case the fire alarm sounds, delegates must evacuate the building according to fire instructions posted on the doors in an orderly manner. Do not take your belongings with you.

Curfew

We expect delegates to respect each other and adhere to the curfew. Each delegate must be showered, ready to go to bed and in his or her room at the time of curfew. Delegates should not be in the halls after curfew except to use restroom facilities. In the case of excessive noise, one warning will be given. If the noise persists after the first warning, advisors will be notified. Continued violations of curfew and noise rules will be grounds for dismissal from the conference.

Obey Directions

Delegates are to obey instructions by any advisor or Bentley Model United Nations staff, not just those given by their school’s advisors.

Dress Code

Each delegate should be attired in western business dress for all committee sessions; sneakers or jeans are not acceptable. Males are to wear suits or sport coats and ties. Females are to wear dresses, suits, or professional pants. Delegates will be sent back to change if they do not follow the dress code.

Smoking

Bentley has joined many smoke-free campuses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Smoking is prohibited at all times, including in the dormitory rooms and conference buildings. Smokers must step outside to smoke.

Badges

Delegates must wear their BMUN badges at all times; they are the only identification recognized by Model United Nations staff, Campus officials and Marriot Food Services. Keep them visible at all times to avoid confusion.

Linens

Linens must be returned. Each delegate will receive a pillow, a pillowcase, a blanket, two towels, two bed sheets, and a bed cover. Delegates are responsible for all items and must return them to a designated area on Sunday morning. If you do not receive all the above items at the beginning of the conference, please notify Model United Nations staff. Any missing items at check out will result in charges.

Trash

Delegates are responsible for their own trash. Each room will be provided a trash bag. After each committee session, each delegate is to clean their own area before leaving the room.

In the case of violation of any regulation, the staff reserves the right to dismiss a participant from the conference.
